Good looking and clean site. I love the use of subtle backgrounds on the sidebar. Very nice. Good colors.
And it validates, so it’s pretty under as well as over. ??
In the opening “welcome” on the front page, the text feels rather crowded against the sides of the container (box) it is in. You might like it like that, or add a little padding to create more space around it.
If you are up for it, think about designing some custom templates for the categories so you can use a description at the top which explains “What is Hawaiian shirt Fridays”, something I’ve never heard of and I’m sure others have no idea, though it’s sorta self explanatory, it might add a little more to the categories if we knew a little history or something about this.
Also, the loss of the sidebar in the single post view is annoying with this kind of subject matter. If the one I’m looking at tickles me, I will definitely want to see more, but the only naviation I’m left with is in the little next and previous at the top, the fine print in the post meta data section box, or my back button. People will want to see more, so you might consider putting the sidebar in to help them find MORE. And the more they find, the more time they will spend on your site, a key goal of any good website owner.
Or add the categories to the header, which will also make it easier to get to more posts and fun stuff.
I love the header art and the overall look is clean and sharp. These are just minor details.
