• I just posted this on the Wordfence forum

    Hello, quick question. This morning (CET time) I received a Wordfence alert as follows

    * Modified plugin file: wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/readme.txt
    Referring to plugin Google XML Sitemaps version 3.2.8

    Apparently one line in the readme.txt was changed:
    a) the reference Wordfence is using is >> Tested up to: 3.5
    b) in my file it was >> Tested up to: 3.4

    I have downloaded the plugin from www.remarpro.com, and indeed the file looks like the reference (a) above. However I looked at my previous site backups and they seem all to have the line as in (b) above, which incidentally was never detected by Wordfence before.

    Bottom line I am 99.99% sure that the reference in Wordfence and www.remarpro.com has changed. Am I the only one with this problem?

    In any case I have de-installed and re-installed the plugin, but for my mental sanity and peace of mind I would like to know if I was the only one or the plugin author just changed the file behind our backs.

    Wordfence team, one question: do you check if plugin reference files change without plugin version changes?

    Thanks to all in advance for your help.
