• Since updating to WP 4.0 I have had no registrants, spamish or otherwise. One person contacted me on my FB page to complain and I found that their IP had been slotted as ‘bad’. I checked it and it wasn’t. It was totally clean. Then I began checking the others that were marked as ‘cached bad IP’. Clean. In fact, except for IPs already in the white list, SS is suddenly marking everything as a bad IP. Anyone else have this problem since updating to 4.0? I turned this plugin off and started getting regs again… Please suggest a newer and better registration plugin if you can. This one is (was) great but maybe not anymore. I’d really hope there is something out there that checks again SFS and honeypot like this one. What a pity the developer didn’t hang in there. I’d pay for a registration plugin that works.

  • I have been running on 4.0 and I still get comments and (unfortunately) I still get a few registrants sneaking in on my test sites. Akismet is still reporting an occasional spam, so the plugin is not blocking everyone, at least for me.

If you would give me the reason listed in the log for the blocked users it would help.

Since ldch1000 no longer has the plugin installed, perhaps there is someone else who is having this problem and can reply with a reason. If the reason code is the same (such as “too fast”) you can turn off that check and see if people are still getting through.

Ok, so after I got your note, (very appreciated), I turned SS back on and tried a registration from a mobile device. The browser came back with a ‘too many redirects’ error. Then I went and looked in the ‘recent activity log’ on the SS History page. The reason it gives every time for anyone trying to sign up is ‘cached bad ip’. It also seems to go to the directed rejection page about 20-50 times in a matter of seconds, hence the ‘too many redirects’, i’m guessing. So I’m on hold with the IT guys of my webhost hoping for guidance there. But truly if you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them. This really is simply the best registration filter there is. Thanks, Laura

Go into stop spammer history and clear the cache. Once the ip gets into the cache, the plugin no longer checks anything. So you need to force it to fail for the first time to find out why it failed.

Hi, So i just got off the phone with my webhost IT and they couldn’t register either, it just kept them re-entering the password and trying again and went no where. We turned off SS and the IT registered, no problem.
After we hung up I went to the SS Options panel and unchecked the redirect to my custom rejection page and then tried again. When I tried to register again, it simply took me to the standard ‘Access Denied
This site is protected by the Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin.’ That’s better, but still not appropriate. Sadly, until SS stops labeling everything as ‘cached bad IP’ and rejecting everyone it is unusable. I hope there is an update scheduled. Truly, you could charge for this plugin.

After clearing the cache and trying again, I still went to the Access Denied page. ??
    what can I try now?

Is the root cause in the history????
