Did work eventually

I was trying to use the free version to move a large and rather complex site which is only partially in wordpress. With creative use of FTP, I manage eventually on the third try, and after I disregarded many invitations to pay 69 box for the pro version (which is the main reason why I am giving it only four stars).
This being said, the plugin in seems well built and robust. If you are moving a large site, you may be better of paying the 69 box right away. If you are moving a small site, or if you are prepared to spend the time it takes, the free version might do, but be patient and persevere.
