Thanks very much for your feedback Ripjaws. I am very sorry to hear that the plugin is not working as expected.
When your pages failed to load, if a 408 or server timeout error appeared, it is likely that the plugin was asking to create more new images than your server was prepared to handle all at once. Picturefill.WP ties to create 3 new 2x image sizes for each of the 3 default WordPress image sizes (Thumbnail, Medium, and Large) for display on HDPI devices. When the plugin is first activated on an existing site this can sometimes, on image heavy posts, take several seconds. If the server runs into it’s time limit, it will stop and return a 408 error. In this case the server is just saying that it was unable to finish the assigned task in the time allotted. If you refresh the page, the server will pick up where it left off and continue creating images until the task is complete. If there are an especially large number of images for the server to process, this may take more than one refresh.
If server timeouts are the issue, often simply refreshing the page and allowing the server to continue it’s work will resolve the issue. Another possible solution is a plugin like Regenerate Thumbnails to create the new image sizes for existing posts and pages.
If this was not a 408 error, please let me know. I will need more information about your running environment to try to duplicate the issue.
Thanks again for the feedback.
