Did deleting install.php & install-helper.php delte my website?

  • I was reading about the security updates and trying to make my site more secure. I changed the “wp_” tags to something else in myphpadmin & everything worked fine. I added the security keys to the config.php file and it seemed okay. Then I deleted the install.php & install-helper.php files from my admin file. Then my site disappeared. I tried to reinstall the files, but the site went straight to the /install.php and asked for the admin user name & password to set it up again. I tried to input the same info (I wasn’t sure what to do), but when I got inside, my pages and posts were gone. All the plug-ins were still there tho. Weird.

    I do have backups of the entire wordpress site and the mysql database, I just don’t know which parts I’m supposed to do what with.

    Does anyone have any idea which step was the one that broke it?
    How do I fix this?
    Did I lose it all forever?
    Please help!

    And did you update the wp-config.php file with the table prefix changes?

    Yes I did

    Have you checked to see if your old database is still populated?

    The old database is still there with the changes, but now there is also a copy of the table files unchanged – the backup I made before Is tarted tinkering. Do I need to delete those?

    Are your posts still in the database? If so, in which tables?

    Yes the posts are still in the “myrandomstring_posts” table

    ::whew:: I just spoke to my hosting company who said they can restore the files and the DB from their last backup last Sunday. Hopefully that will do it, and I can come back to the forum for someone smarter than myself to help me try it all over again! Thank you for your help esmi!
