Devious/terrible tactics by new developers

  • The original GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent Banner that most of the reviews are for has gone. A new company took it over and replaced the plugin with a different one. If you want to subscribe and pay for a cookie popup banner, this may work for you. But the original functionality was such a simple thing anyway, I don’t recommend you subscribe to something for that.

    If you just wanted a cookie popup banner that this plugin was for, then this is not what you want. The devious and quite frankly what should be illegal tactics employed by the new developers are terrible. Its a 0 star if I could do it.

    To recap, I installed a plugin for some functionality, then the developers removed that functionality and put a paid subscription system on it. I have to update all my websites to remove their plugin now, and find something else.

    This plugin should have been a NEW plugin not an update. Its not an update.

    I will not use this company, because I would not trust them at all to update plugins properly in future.

    Who knows, they could replace this functionality again with something totally new again. Should be illegal.

    Unfortunately the previous version of this plugin was no longer compliant with GDPR and required significant development in order to allow websites to scan and report cookies and adequately respond to their visitors’ consent preferences, in accordance with the law.

    We recognize that this was a significant change from the previous plugin. Because of this, prior to this update we released a minor version change that disabled automatic updates for all users and notified existing plugin users of the upcoming changes.

    How websites deal with GDPR is not your decision to make though. It’s the website owners decision. We then choose the appropriate functionality/plugin we want.

    Your change made websites less GDPR compliant by removing the cookie notice.

    The plugin is so different it should not be an update. It’s a new plugin. It should have been released as such.

    Or you need to keep the current functionality and add the new features as an option we can choose to enable if we want in the plugin.

    The functionality you are trying to force on us we achieve using the Complianz plugin which we will move to.
