• Moderator closed my other post, so I need to re-ask the questions in it which *were* on topic.

Specifically, how to go about creating and managing a site locally before uploading it to the server.

Does it matter whether links are relative or absolute? I can’t find a definitive answer to that by searching. It seems like the plugins that can handle moving a site will be able to move links in either case, so that would mean it doesn’t matter, right?

  • Links in WordPress should always be absolute. That’s how WordPress is built to work (rightly or wrongly).

When you take the site live, you can use a search-and-replace plugin to search the database and replace the old development URL with the new live URL and that will “reset” all of the sites links to go to the correct locations.
