Developing a new theme from Twenty Twelve

  • I am trying to strip down twenty twelve to make a light weight skeleton to use on my projects. I am starting to make a responsive theme and tested it on my computer (where it works fine) but when I try it on a mobile device the entire stylesheet doesn’t even load. I am not quite sure why but I can’t make it work. I am not using any media queries at this stage so the theme should be applied to all devices. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Did you try deactivating plugins to explore whether any could be responsible?

    Are your hosting providers using a service that switches to another site on mobile?

    Make sure all plugins are disabled during testing. Twentytwelve’s stylesheet comes with media queries. Did you remove them?

    A really good theme that is easy to strip and build onto is Ultralight. What is great about this theme is that it is simple, but out of date. Upgrading it and getting it to where it meets today’s WP standards really helps you learn a lot about WordPress and themes. The author of Ultralight also made a theme named F2. It is a very nice theme, and also an easy theme to strip.

    I’ve deactivated literally all plugins but no use. I’ve since found out that this is an issue ocurring in all my themes, not specific to the TwentyTwelve theme. I built it locally, uploaded it to a server when it was complete, and now I’ve downloaded it again to fix the mobile issue. I might try a clean WP install incase there’s some funny business with moving it around etc.

    I’ve just built a theme using the https://underscores.me/ which is a stripped down responsive theme (naked theme) I have enjoyed the learning process building a custom theme using it.

    I say responsive … the text wraps and a js responsive menu is included. I made it really responsive writing my own media queries.
