• Hi guys,

I’m wondering what solutions do you choose when you need to work on a dev version of your blog?

Do you install another WP ? Do you make a copy of the /wordpress directory? Do you hack the index.php file?

I would like to try some stuff, but not on the live version of my site and was wondering what was the best way.

I work on mine live. But I’m a tinkerer. ??

Simplest way to have a dev version is to just install XAMPP on your own box and then copy your WordPress installation to it. XAMPP is an all-in-one solution for a webserver, which includes PHP and mySQL right in the package. Make a backup of your live database and restore it to your new one on your XAMPP setup and voila, instant blog on your PC. Develop all you like.
