Hi everybody! I am in the process of creating a website using WordPress. The site will be hosted on BlueHost. I don’t really expect to draw millions or thousands of visitors per day (at least not at first). With that in mind, should I pay the “Pro Package” on BlueHost, which includes “unlimited bandwidth” or should I just save a few bucks and stick with the basic plan? I am not really sure what exactly bandwidth is or if I need to worry about having it in an “unlimited” supply at this early in the game. Any insight is greatly appreciated. By the way, my website will be an internet literary magazine. There will be some videos, and a nice amount of photography submissions every month. Is that a factor I need to consider? Thanks again. Peace.

  • The best thing ot do is start off with the smaller plan, and wait until your traffic gets over the limits. Your hosting comapny will tell you very quickly if you’re using up their resources, and then you can upgrade. The best thing is that until you do you’ll be running at a lower cost.

I run 5 sites on Bluehost. 2 of my sites see pretty decent traffic… totalling about 15000 visitors and 40000 page views a month. One of those sites offers DJ set downloads, with about 3000 downloads a month.

I use the standard Bluehost, and with w3 total cache running, I don’t experience any lag, or issues. And with a couple hundred DJ sets, and a fair amount of photos – I eat plenty of storage space.

I’m not recommending for/against Bluehost in particular, just trying to give you some numbers to be able to consider.

Agreed, pay for the lowest cost and upgrade as needed. Many basic shared hosting plans are under $100/yr.

Alright, thank you everybody. I’m gonna stick with the lower cost option for now. If I ever need more bandwidth, then I’ll upgrade. Makes sense. Peace and Love.
