description of gallery

When I create a gallery I give it a title and description. The title is displayed below each the thumbnail in the album in my page view. When I open a gallery a patchwork of photos are displayed without any description. Only when I select one of the photos and then hit the ‘i’ icon do I see info on the photo which is still not the description I have added when creating the gallery. How do I make the description visible?
