    I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I’m missing something in the set-up … but on my homepage, no matter whether I set the Description to be “Website tagline” or “Custom Text”, the result on the homepage is always:

    <meta property="og:description" content="Home" />

    Which is neither. Everything appears to be working correctly on my other pages – it shows my ‘Custom Text’ on archive blog pages, and post excerpts on single blog posts.

    I am using WordPress SEO by Yoast but disabling the plugin didn’t help. Same behaviour on both my localhost and the live site.

    Plugin Version 1.1.1

  • I guess you have your homepage set as a page. Am I correct?

    In that case you should set your homepage description on that specific page.

    I’ll make sure this is explained on the next plugin version.

    Can you get back to me on this?

    I am having the same problem, also having a page as my homepage, but I see no place to provide a description on that page. Can you be more specific? Thanks!

    I’ve got the same issue. How do I set the description for my home page, which is a page and not a post? There is nowhere to fill in a description field either on the page or in the plugin settings, even though plugin settings shows what the homepage description will lbe set to (it isn’t editable). Do I need to use a custom field? If so, what do I call it?

    Not sure what the plugin author means above when he says “In that case you should set your homepage description on that specific page.” Can you please explain this for us?

    I was encountering the same problem when using a WordPress page as my site’s home page.

    To fix this you need to add a custom page excerpt, similar to the post excerpts. Although wordpress pages can support excerpts (they’re accounted for in the database) it hides the text field to edit the page excerpt by default.

    To activate the page excerpt field go to your home page editor and click screen options at the top right (next to help) then click the excerpt check box.

    Now you can add a custom excerpt to pages which this plugin will pull for the og:description.

    As lachlansun said: “To activate the page excerpt field go to your home page editor and click screen options at the top right (next to help) then click the excerpt check box.”

    I always activate excerpt in the pages editor so I forgot to mention that you need to do this.
