I have had problems with plugins on my website since I installed Wordfence and have therefore had to remove all plugins and start again. However having deleted all wf databases etc I have found one bit of code in my user.ini file that starts wordfence WAF and ends END wordfence WAF.

There is no other code in the file. Can I delete this code so that all Wordfence files have been removed? Thanks

Hi @lingcreative, sorry to hear you had some plugin trouble after installing Wordfence.

The line you see in your .user.ini is for firewall optimization so that Wordfence’s WAF runs before any site content is hosted to visitors. You can remove this, and further full removal instructions are available here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/

If you do wish to reinstall it, the firewall normally stays in Learning Mode for 7 days, so should learn your other plugins’ regular operations to prevent false-positive blocks. The issue you’ve described is certainly not a regular occurrence as we see many millions of sites installing Wordfence before and after other plugins/themes. If you see other types of error message on your site or specific server log messages, we would be happy to troubleshoot them.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Hi Peter, thanks for getting back to me – I know it doesn’t happen often but everything pointed to WF on this occasion so I have had to rethink my security. Thank you for your help and getting back to me.
