• Is it possible to remove previously uploaded headers, so that they’re not appearing in the selection list under Apperance > Header > Uploaded Images?

I’ve tried removing them manually from my FTP, but now the images just display as broken images (no picture).

Also, while I’m on the subject of headers – does WP not support .png or .gif formats for Headers (for the purposes of transparency)?

You should be able to find the old images in your media library and delete them there.

I don’t know about png/gif, and that may be theme specific.

As Ipstenu says, you should delete unwanted headers through the media library rather than FTP. At the moment, the now-missing image is still marked as your current header in the database, hence the broken image. Hit “Restore Original Header Image” to go back to the default and clear the broken image icon.

As for png/gif, they are supported, but only if you upload an image of the exact dimensions your theme calls for — the conversion to jpg happens at the time the image is resized, so if you don’t resize, you bypass the problem. This *should* allow transparent images as well, but I don’t have one of the right size handy to test with just now, unfortunately.

Thanks for the tips – I’d never have thought you delete them from the Media Library. In fact, when I did delete those images from the library, it was the first time I bothered to access it.

I’m still learning the various features of WP. ??

Thanks for the tips on the header, but for now I’ve just uploaded a banner with a beveled edge (for the “fanciness” of it), until I can figure out how to add a header that has some transparency in the background,
