Deleting unused images from library will give 404 error?

  • Hello Friends,

    I want to delete some unused images from my WordPress Library, which were uploaded 3-4 months back.

    My concern is, do deleting these images will give me 404 errors in GWT?

  • That depends. Did you post these images – or links to them – in any of your posts & pages?

    If the images really are unused, delete them. If they were indexed by Google, Google will record a 404 but eventually remove them from its index.

    If that bothers you, you can remove them from the index via GWT manually.
