• Deleted pictures (no more displayed) how to keep them online with same URL ?

    Hello,

When a picture is deleted or replaced from a page, search engines and links cannot access it anymore.

I think it is wrong because sometimes some websites have dragged and dropped these pictures to link to my website, so these pictures won’t be displayed anymore on these external websites. Also, some search engines still try to access these deleted pictures.

Is there a way to delete a picture from display on my website but still keep it in the system and let other websites or search engines still access this deleted picture ?

    Thank you for your help.

If you delete an image from a post, it is not deleted from the media library, so a direct link to that image should work. If you also delete it from the media library, it’s gone.

I *think* that’s what your asking, but I could be wrong.

Search engines will continue to try to access things that they’ve previously indexed. Eventually, if they encounter 404s, they’ll give up and remove those links from their index.

Thank you, actually I tried with Woocommerce and after deleting a picture from product page, I could not access it anymore with the link that was working when the picture was displayed on the product page.

    So maybe it’s a special case ?

I know from experience with other CMS that even years after Google or other bots keep trying to access pictures that are not displayed anymore, this is why I want to keep the direct link to the pictures when I change the Woocommerce products images.

Also, when customers review products on their blog, they often drag and drop pictures that won’t be displayed on their blogs anymore if I change them from the product page (I know that they should download my pictures and upload them on their blog, but you know that they do what they want anyway)

I will try again and report, but if more people have experience, thank you again for your help.
