I planned to upgrade to 2.5.1 and carried out the installation steps as directed. I have a penchant of NOT deleting the old version files by just moving them into a folder and I did just that. However, in my zest to upgrade, I also moved the ‘wp-content’ folder in to the old files. Before I could realise it, I hit the wp-admin/upgrade.php and everything went haywire. Naturally my old plugins were not to be found and my website got screwed.

In an attempt to get the old version back, I uploaded the ‘wp-content’ folder from my harddisk and hit the wp/upgrade.php once again. It continued to show me the old files.

Then I deleted the old files and reuploaded the new 2.5.1 WP files while still keeping the ‘wp-content’ folder the way it was and hit the wp/upgrade.php’. It said my database was already upgraded. I am stuck now for some answers. Do you guys think I have screwed it really bad for a reinstallation or you think there’s an easier option still not tried? Please folks, help me get through this mess.

  • After you’ve got everything where it should be you could try forcing a database upgrade then see if that helps.

Jeremy – thanks for the prompt reply. I did just that and it asked me to upgrade the database when I tried to login again. However, after the upgradation, it failed to recognize my previously installed plugins. Any idea why this is happening?

Heck..I am really sorry for these random postings. I cannot maintain my composure when I am faced with a calamity I guess!!! The problem was resolved earlier and WP must have deactivated the plugins on its own. I just activated them once again and the website is running fine. Thanks so much Jeremy for your help and patience ??

Glad to see you got it resolved. When you put your wp-content folder back it saw all the plugins as new and it was waiting on you to activate them. ??
