• Hi,

I uploaded the site and it went live before I had all content in.

As such I replace the index file with my old website home page, whilst I added all content. Stupidly I did not back up this file as presumed my web designer had it.

Now, I have a completed word press account BUT the wrong index file.

Is there any way of re-propagating this index / home page file so that I can upload it and get the site live?

    Help.

    Cheers

    Andy

  • Hello there,

There’s little chance of getting a lost file back on a web server, every hit to your site increases the chance that the disk area used to store the data has been owerwritten, otherwise it’s possible via tools that scan the disk for files not in the file table, even on linux.

But let’s assume you’re on a shared host or a VPS, there’s a good chance they have regular daily/weekly backups of your entire account and that they are able to roll it back for you. If this is the case, toss a mail to your host’s helpdesk!

If you are talking about wordpress index.php file that you got and is in root when you installed wordpress then just upload same file from a fresh download and rename your index file.
