I have ‘Delete Originals’ option checked, “webp convert” checked, and “resize at upload” enabled.

Ultimately, I would like to upload my 5Mb JPG and end up with a single 100k webp file on the server.

    • I upload a 5Mb test.jpg and it creates TWO files (test.jpg@200k and a webp@110k).
    • I no longer require the 200k resized JPG, but it’s not being deleted at upload, even if I try and manually delete with the “Delete Originals” button in under ‘Tools’. Does WordPress still require this resized 200k JPG?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi logicred,

There isn’t an option to delete the original JPG when converting to WebP as usually those original uploads are needed as a fallback in case the WebP either isn’t available or if the browser doesn’t support it.

The “delete originals” option in the plugin settings is for images that have been converted from PNG to JPG or vice versa and the delete originals button in the tools menu is for oversized images that have been scaled down by WordPress.

You can delete your JPG/PNG originals manually, but again, that will remove the fallback capabilities. If you would like to see more WebP capabilities, I would recommend adding your voice to our feedback form: https://feedback.ewww.io/
