    Hello there!

I’m having an issue with some particular downloads.

Our client needs to periodically update a certain download’s file with a new version.
Problem is, due to the nature of the file and its use, each version needs to have the same exact name, by all means replacing the previous one.

We tried both “Delete permanently” from the “Media” tab and removing all revision from “Downloads” tab, but the physical file persists. This is a problem for us because then when we re-upload the file it gains a progressive suffix, like “MyFile-1.dat”, “MyFile-2.dat” and so on.

So I’m wondering, is there a way to remove the physical file permanently, so that we can re-upload it with the same name?

Thanks in advance for your time and thanks for the great plugin nonetheless.
    Have a nice day!

@sgallant I found no official solution yet, but it appears WPML might have something to do with it.

As a temporary solution try removing the revision with the file in question in Downloads
and remove the file under Media in all languages.

You should then be able to create a new revision with the same file.

    Hello,

Sorry for the late reply. Please note that deleting a file using the “Media” menu deletes the uploaded file. If that is not happening then like posted above, some 3rd party plugin would be preventing it.

@alegrigis thanks for the response, somehow I missed the notification. I’m not using WPML so don’t think that is the issue. Your method of manually removing the file will work, but is obviously not ideal for a non-technical user who will be managing these files on the site going forward.

@hchouhan thanks for your response, but I think the idea of this thread was identifying a way to delete the file without having to use the Media menu, i.e. one-step deletion from the Downloads management interface. Ideally, removing the “Download” version should also remove the file, or at least offer that option. Any chance this may be added in the future? Thanks!
