I have a client who is using your plugin to upload content from their WP site to iTunes.

They want to know if it is possible to have the upload delay a specific amount of time before happening.

For example: they post a new podcast episode available early to members on their website, then 30 days later it automatically uploads to iTunes for public access..

Is this something that’s inherently available, or even possible through custom development within the plugin?

    Thanks!

There’s nothing built into PowerPress that’d allow for this kind of functionality. I’ll send a note to the developer of the plugin and ask him to weigh in here if he has any ideas.

    Thanks, that would be phenomenal.

freedomkyle12, sounds like a cool idea, but also very niche. It is not a feature in PowerPress, sorry. I did some googling and I haven’t even found this for blogging (e.g. available on website first then in the feed 30 days later). I was hoping maybe another plugin could be used in addition but no such luck in my brief search.

You could use a custom post typs to manage separate content that is a podcast but protected in a way that it’s only available to members. Such a scenario though you would have to write a post twice, one in the members only post type and one in the regular posts that is scheduled into the future. There is a Duplicate Post plugin that would make copying posts easy, I not sure if it bridges the post types though.

Do you mind sharing more details why you need such steps? Perhaps there is another better alternative?

    Hey Angelo, thanks for replying.

Basically they have a closed website set up where people need an account to access posts (getting a basic account is free). No posts are available for viewing without being logged in.

What they’d like to do is post their videos/audios on their website first to give early access to members before it’s available to the general public via their itunes podcasts. They would like to have it upload to itunes without having to do extra work to make it happen on a delay.

I might be able to use your custom post type idea, combining the duplicate post plugin and a post type switcher if absolutely necessary. Not a huge extra step to me, but it might be a bit cumbersome for my client. It’s got me thinking though…

Would they be able to upload the audio or video to their website then hook it up to your plugin at a later date? Even if they need to go in and check something manually?

Yes you can always edit a blog post at a later date and add media to it.

As far as episodes are concerned though, the post date may need to change to the current date you add the media, otherwise the episode will appear as a month old when it does appear on iTunes. Not exactly sure of the consequences of that are as far as iTunes ranking is concerned.

Hmm… I’ll relay this to my client. It may be something we are willing to experiment on. Thanks for talking this through!
