definition list code added to html, but only shows in some circumstances

    I am a WordPress dunce, though adequate with html.

    I am trying to use some definition lists.

    I added the code needed using the text view in Elementor. There is no change showing in Page preview etc.

    However, from dashboard, if I go to Page, Edit, and then switch to Edit with WordPress Editor, the definition list shows correctly in the editor, but not using Preview.

    Please would you help me to understand what I’m doing wrong, and how to correct things.

    You may not be doing anything wrong. If you were to publish, does the front end output appear as it did in preview or as it did in the WP editor? Or something else entirely? The preview should match the front end appearance, though that is not always the case. It’s not uncommon for the editor view to be different than preview or front end. Unless your theme has explicitly defined an editor theme (theme devs are not required to do so), the editor appearance will very likely be different than the front end appearance.

    Previews are supposed to appear like the front end, it’s one reason for previewing. Due to some fault with the loading of theme stylesheets, it can happen that preview and front end do not match. Something is wrong somewhere should this happen. There is not necessarily anything wrong when the editor does not match the preview.

    Thank you for your reply.

    It has taken me a while to organise a preview (front end output?) that is independent of that shown with the editor.

    Of course, as is the way of life, now the definition list code is not working anywhere, not WP editor preview, Elementor preview, nor on the published page. The code is there, I’ve checked, but it is not showing.

    I am using Themeisle Neve theme. Is it possible that definition lists do not work with it? If you are unsure, I shall ask them.

    No worries for taking some time, distance through time with these things is often a good thing. Better to see something previously missed after a fresh outlook ??

    There’s a chance it could be something about your theme instead of Elementor. Try switching to twentytwenty as a test. If the list appears, it’s something that could maybe be fixed on your normal theme with additional CSS rules. If twentytwenty still does not show the list, then it’s likely something amiss with Elementor. In that case I agree that you should ask through their support channel. I’ve very little experience with Elementor.

    Thank you for your reassuring words. <i worked for the employment agency Brooke Street Bureau for a while, and they drilled in to us the idea of Do It Now. It has stuck too well in me – sigh.

    Your suggestion is brilliant! I change to TwentyTwenty an the def. lists are there. I have taken screen shots of the page with the two different themes, and shall see if the theme providers advise.
