defining user roles for linked LMS wordpress site

HI there
we are using a separate wordpress install connected via the same database,
we are using woocommerce, subscriptions and groups also woo groups subscription.
Currently we can create users on both websites the LMS site (slave site) allows
users to access once they have paid for their subscription (woo subs plugin changes there user role to subscriber ) . As we have 5 subscription tiers we need to restrict each user to the tier, subscription that they paid for: i.e. restrict access.

we need to know can we some how determine which group each user has subscribed to so that we can then restrict there access? Is it possible to determine which group the user is subscribed to using a hook etc?
