Default to attribute posts

To mirror content of a site, I am doing multiple Export/Import – entire site is much too big to import at one time, even boosting maxfilesize and maxtimeout values in php.ini.
First import creates users in my target site and attributes posts to them. Subsequent imports attribute to my userid unless I check off each author name individually. Since I have about 500 authors and need to do about 35 imports, this is a SERIOUS issue.
Is there a way to tweak the PHP to default the checkboxes to ‘Checked’ instead of ‘Unchecked’.
