• I want to poke around the css for the twentysixteen theme to find some values I want to tweak, but the only files I can find are editor-style.css, ie.css, ie7.css and ie8.css.

Where do I find the default styles please? Also, can anyone explain the process of how WP generates and/or chooses a stylesheet? When I use Chrome inspector, I see style.css?ver=4.5.2 is being used, but I don’t know where from.

  • Hello there,

Go to twentysixteen folder and find style.css file in it at here. But I suggest that you can create child theme and add the updated css in child style.css file. You can create child theme through this tutorial.

    thank you

First question answered – I assumed it would be in the css folder, but it was actually right there with all the php files at the top level of the theme folder.

Thanks codemovement. I read your reply after posting my own. Should have been obvious. Still curious about second part of my question though.

It’s not good approach to make any change in theme files and better approach is to make changes in through child theme.

This tutorial help you to create child theme: https://themify.me/docs/child-themes

    thank you.
