I’m wanting to turn on the post-by-email functionality for a client that can use it, but the folks who will be sending in posts aren’t particularly sophisticated. I’m concerned about relying on them to include the status short-code (i.e., for “Pending”) or any of the other short-codes, for that matter. Is there a way to make any emailed post default to Pending? Or better, a way to have it default to “Pending” unless the user does include a status short-code?

I’m afraid Post By Email doesn’t include such an option. And since the posts are sent from WordPress.com servers, I’m afraid I won’t be able to recommend a work-around either as you won’t be able to edit some code to get this to work.

To get more control over the posts by email, it might be best to go with a plugin like Postie, that may offer such features.

Sorry not to be able to help you more.
