    Hello there,

When generating thumbnails, I don’t want to compress images twice, but I suspect it is a necessary limitation. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I assume the image processing pipeline is something like this…

    1. Media Library image used to generate thumbnails at required sizes.

    2. Thumbnails compressed at “Default JPEG Quality”.

    3. Thumbnails compressed again by Shortpixel, with Shortpixel compression setting (in my case, “Glossy”).

Is this correct? If so, it would seem that images are compressed twice. Is there any way to avoid this?

In order to reduce this effect, what is the highest setting that “Default Jpeg Quality” can be set at in the plugin? I would have assumed 100, but the form field goes up to 99999999999999999.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @adamcatalyst – thanks for your message and sorry for my slow reply! ??

Yes, you can consider that the images are compressed twice but usually, because of the high JPEG default quality in WordPress, this doesn’t matter.
Visually the images will look the same after being optimized with Glossy compared with un-optimized. The only noticeable result will be the thumbnail size which will be generally greatly reduced after using Glossy.

But you can try to make some tests and see if you notice any visual difference after setting the maximum JPEG quality to 99 or 100 (which should be the maximum).

    Best regards,
    Alex

Thanks for the reponse! May I suggest that the input field either has a table indicating that it accepts a value of up to /100, or that it doesn’t accept a value up to 99999999999999999? If the page simply says “/100” or the field had such a limitation, I would have figured it out ??

Thank you for your suggestion, we’ll try to add that limitation in the next plugin update! ??

Also I’d like to invite you to consider leaving a review for RTA ??
