• In this day and age, having open and unmoderated comments on a blog is a recipe for trouble. Once a bot finds a blog post with an open commenting it will hit it until something or someone stops it. Bots use up the limited supply of cpu cycles on the Web Server and DB server. Not to mention it can use up quite a bit of Bandwidth should the comments on the post grow into the hundreds.

The seasoned WP user may know this already but for the new and uninitiated WP users, it can be a costly mistake.

The default setting for comments on a post should be set to be moderated. Going further it should require the poster to be a registered user for the blog and logged in.

If someone wants to have open and unmoderated commenting on their blog so be it, but they should have to make the changes from the default settings to have it that way and not the other way around.

Perhaps I’m missing the need for having the defaults settings the way they are but I’m speaking from experience here.

Thank you for considering this change for future development of WordPress! ??
