Whe using SEO Yoast, I would like
    1. “Allow search engines to show this page in search results”
    2. Search engines follow links on this Page
    to be “no” by default.

    If I go Plugins/Yoast SEO Settings/Search Appearance/Content types –

    I can see
Show Pages in search results? Yes/No and
Show SEO settings for Pages? Show/hide

I’m just concerned if i change these to “no” and “hide”
    1. It will change existing pages thats are already indexed by google to show be no and hide
    2. There is a scenario in future in future where having this setting as “no” and “hide” as default could change eisting indexed pages to no and hide. For example if there is a WP update or plugin update or if we did a migration from staging to prod

    Anyone know?

  • Hi @kingleviathan,

You can change the defaults for all pages by going to either SEO > Search Appearance > Content Types or Taxonomies.

    1. The “Allow search engines to show in search results” when set to “No” adds a “noindex” to the pages of a particular type. This setting under SEO > Search Appearance affects all of the pages, however, if you have already changed the settings for individual pages, the page settings override the defaults.

The “Show SEO settings for Pages” only affects whether the Yoast SEO metabox appears for a particular type of page. It doesn’t change any of your default SEO data or settings for a particular page.

    2. Future updates or migrations that involve copying the database from staging to prod should never change these settings. If ever happens, it would be considered a bug.

    Hope this helps/

    Thanks Priscilla

So there is no way to set the default for future new pages without affecting existing pages correct?

    Sorry, i reread.
“if you have already changed the settings for individual pages, the page settings override the defaults.”

So there is no chance pages you have individually set will change. Thats good

Correct. The settings you made on the individual posts/pages will override the settings done under SEO > Search Appearance.
