• I apparently have a theme that is full of encryptions and didn’t realize it. I want to remove a bunch of crappy ads that are showing up in the footer of my website. I found a software decoder and I have identified where the ad stuff is located in the functions.php.

Now that I have identified it, can I delete it or will my website lock me out like it did when I tried to remove the footer.php?

  • Impossible to say. The only thing you can do is try it. Or simply use another theme. There have been plenty of warnings on these forums about using encrypted themes.

And in future, please stick to posting in just the one topic.

Esmi–first of all, I am new to all of this website and blogging stuff so forgive me if I’m not following protocol. I didn’t know that my theme was full of encrypted code when I downloaded it.

And if you can’t answer my questions with your snide commentary, then I would ask that you not respond to my thread. Trying to figure this stuff out is frustrating enough without smart remarks from people like you.

I didn’t know that my theme was full of encrypted code when I downloaded it.

Then I can only suggest that you try looking for another theme. Themes like these can (and sometimes do) insert all kinds of spammy links into your pages. Hence the warnings.

As for my “commentary”, posting the same or similar questions in multiple topics is covered in the Forum welcome message that, I assume, you read before posting. Duplicate posts are often deleted. I chose not to delete yours but try to and answer it. If that classes as a smart remark… *shrug*

Next time, I would advise you not to assume anything. I haven’t seen nor have I read any forum welcome message. And if you are a moderator, you need to have a little more tact when responding to people on here. Not everyone who comes here is “tech savvy” or in the mood for condescending attitudes. In fact, do not reply to me because I’m done with this conversation and you might as well delete this thread.

I haven’t seen nor have I read any forum welcome message.

That’s overwhelmingly obvious. Page one of the forums. All those big yellow forum categories at the top with the word “Welcome” in them. Or the one that specifically says “Welcome to the How-To forum (AKA forum rules)”… Good place to start. ??

By the way, I responded to your thread in the “encrypted theme” area if you get a chance to take a look… it might be a deciding factor in your continued use of the theme.

And as a side note… This: “people like you” has immediately put you at a disadvantage. I have no clue what you meant, but just for the record, and speaking from personal experience, you need to dial it back if you expect people to actually help you.
