Decide categories to appear on first page?

I’m running a gaming related website with posts about games and hardware news, reviews, updates etc. However at the same time I’m also going to have a more personal blog about my experiences with my clan, what I’ve bought recently, what I’m doing etc.

On the main page of my site, all new posts appear. I was wondering if its possible to make all posts appear from all categories except for 1. That way anything I put in my blog category will not take up space on the main page.

How would I go about setting this up?
