• I bought the premium version of the theme and it doesn’t live up to the hype. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad theme (thus the 4 star review) but it’s also not the greatest theme ever as many reviews claim. Portions of it are simple and easy to configure but other elements are clunky to use and there’s limited documentation. Support is via their forum and much like the theme at time’s it’s wonderful and at time’s it’s clunky and no help. Overall, it’s not a bad choice if you’re tech savy and don’t mind a bit of tinkering, but I could never recommend it for someone who just wants a theme that works “out of the box”.

    Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! We appreciate it ??

Do you have any examples of the limited documentation/clunky support? I’d love to review those areas and hopefully improve things. We try our best to go above and beyond when it comes to support, so if we let you down there I’d really like to take a closer look and make things right.

No theme is perfect, but we’re confident that GeneratePress can be a great solution for all users, advanced or beginner. We’re constantly working hard to improve all aspects of the theme, and our support is always there and happy to help if you hit a roadblock along the way.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Tom,

I think the biggest example I’d give in terms of clunkiness (maybe not the best word choice on my part) is for someone to install the theme on an existing site and think they can make their site quickly look like one from the site library. If it was a new install, yea you can import one of them easily, but not so for an existing site. Why not have a way to import those theme creations onto existing sites or at the very least have a way to import pieces of sites (headers, footers, etc)? Beginners are looking for plug and play not a vanilla theme with no easy roadmap to making it look good. At the very least have a beginners documentation that walks people through how to create the various setups in the library. I spent 20+ years in the IT industry and your documentation is great for techs…not so much for non techs.

Again, totally not saying it’s a bad theme (because it isn’t), just think there’s some areas that could be more beginner friendly. Anyhow, hope my review helps some people and maybe gives you guys something to consider in regards to improvement.

    Awesome, great feedback!

Installing one of the Site Library sites on an existing site does actually work, but there are some complications sometimes that aren’t avoidable, unfortunately. We don’t want to overwrite existing content, but we also aren’t aware of the current front page, so the importer will set its imported front page. The same goes for menus etc..

It takes a little de-constructing, but it is possible.

or at the very least have a way to import pieces of sites (headers, footers, etc)

We may or may not be working on this exact thing right now ??

Again, I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
