Dealing with Empty/not present query params

Hi,
I use the following shortcode on my contact form, I hid the field because it was showing ‘product-ref’ as default text inside the field when the query param was not present.
[hidden product-ref default:get default:post_meta “product-ref”] </label
However, in the email templates using [product-ref] still insists on outputting ‘product-ref’.
How do I deal with this?
Secondly, [textarea] how do I use placeholder together with query params to show it when query param is not present?

On this page if I click ‘Get the best quote’ a hidden product_ref field will contain the url of the previous page.

If I arrive by the Contact Us page page the value of the hidden field will be product_ref. I want it instead to be empty/blank – because when I submit the form I end up with “product_ref” ending up in email templates.
