• YIKES!! I carefully followed the directions for migrating my WordPress installation from one web host to another, being certain that all files were backed-up. Now the installation will not work AT ALL, either on the old web host or on the new web host!!

I have a full backup of the OLD installation, which I attempted to copy back onto the old host, yet it still doesn’t work. Several months of work went into the development of the blog, and several authors provided some works of genius to the publication, and now NONE of it works AT ALL!

Any input would be appreciated… anyone providing a solution that leads to the bringing of the blog back to life again will win my undying gratitude (as that’s all I can afford at this time). HELP!!!

  • We need a little more information other than:

the installation will not work AT ALL

    What exactly isn’t working?
What host are you trying to install this on?
What exactly did you do to install on the new host?
A link to the new site may help.

I use subscription hosting, and I use URL pointing.

Per the directions provided, I made a complete copy of the WordPress installation from the old web host, changed the home URL to reflect the new host, moved that installation to the new host, then restored the backup of the old web installation back to the old host. Now neither of the installations will work at all.

Not sure what you mean by providing a “link” to the new site… The main site URL is the same through URL forwarding. The old installation appears unchanged, except for the obvious fact that it will not work. Please email me at (no spaces): wo rdp re ss @

oops… email address above should be floridasgazette (forgot an a).

You may need to have someone help you transfer the database by hand to the new server rather than using the auto export-import using mysql

your old host may have a backup or can revert to most recent site.

    good luck

Ok, my old web host has now restored the WordPress installation and content from backups (90%). NOW, I must MIGRATE the whole thing to a new web host. Following the directions didn’t work… can anyone help? ??
