    Hi,

    My visual editor went dead.
No tools, no ability to type, in posts or pages.
No ability to edit existing posts.

    Any ideas?

    Bill

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

First thing I’d do is deactivate all plugins, then switch themes to see if it still happens.

    Ok,

Went through all the plug ins.
Trashed and reimported my theme.(Lazy sunday)
    no help.
    Any other ideas?

Thanks for all you quick replies

This thread is old, but maybe there’s something in there that could help you.

I didn’t ask if you were on the latest WordPress, but if not you should upgrade and I would try reinstalling. You might also want to try a different browser.

could you describe in more detail how the visual editor is dead? what exactly is it missing, and you say you cannot type anything into the field? is the field still there?
when you say “no posts, no psges” are you talking about in the admin menu? or do you mean you can’t add content to them?

    what about the html editor?

    Thanks Deepbevel,
    Sorry for my vagueness.

When I go into the dashboard and try to edit and existing post or add a new post I am able to type in a title, but my cursor does not even show up in the body copy field.
The field is there, but has no toolbar above it.

Okay, I was just ruling out screen options. Looks like you have a real issue and I’m not sure what to say about it. If it were me i’d delete all wp files EXCEPT WP CONTENT and upload new copies from a fresh download of wp.
This is almost failsafe, but doing anything like this is never without some risk. Back up first.

    Wow,

    Isn’t this forum cool?

I joined less than an hour ago because I could not solve this problem
Now admittedly I am a total newb to this stuff, but…
Anyway, I deleted the wp-admin and wp-include folders and uploaded new copies from a fresh download as suggested both in the old thread posted by Christine and by deepbevel.
    Problem solved.
    Thanks so much you guys!

I have a lot to learn and looks like this is a great place to start.

I’m constantly amazed by it myself. Especially if I can help solve someones issue.
