Deactivating the plugin

I.m replying because we have the same problem.

Same here, “There has been a critical error on this website.?” when deactivating the plugin. Admin says it’s probably malware??

We’re running PHP 8.1, latest WP.

Same problem. I need to get this plugin off my site (nothing wrong with it – I’m just changing to a different donation solution) When I hit deactivate, I get the error message from WP.

I am so sorry about this issue. There are two ways to manually deactivate a plugin.

1. The easiest way is to contact your web hosting company and ask them to do this for you.
2. The 2nd way requires you to connect to your website server via FTP. I found this guide helpful in walking you through the steps: https://www.wpwhitesecurity.com/manually-disable-wordpress-plugins/#rename-folder – you will want to follow the steps for ‘Deactivating a single plugin’

There is no malware or anything like that in the plugin. This is simply a code compatibility issue. The plugin doesn’t play nice with your server settings.

The reason why I haven’t been able to resolve this yet, is I don’t know the exact error and it isn’t happening on enough sites to get a good picture of the situation.

I managed to stumble into a solution and I hope I am remembering this correctly since I didn’t record it: In my plugins menu, found PayPal Donation and there was an “edit” option. Not all plugins seem to have this, but the PayPal one did. Obviously if you want a plugin to work, don’t touch this. I went into edit, highlighted all the code and deleted it. The plugin disappeared from the plugin list and my site. It did leave behind a text tag [wp-48id something, something}. I found the footer this was located in and deleted. PayPal button gone ??

@scottpaterson Thanks a bunch, I also couldn’t think of any malicious scenario regarding the functionality of the plugin, to be honest. We’re still using it at the moment. It was just weird that deactivating it via plugin settings causes a fatal error. Best regards

I am having the same problem. This seems like a critical error, and this plugin should not be available for download with the WordPress Release 6.2 – Without Warning
