I have had multiple issues since I attempted to update my WP.org site to PHP 8.0 or higher as required by my host (IONOS). It had autoupdated to 6.2.

Yesterday, I (downdated?) to PHP 7.4, and the site was briefly functional, but there were multiple plug-in errors. I attempted to correct them, installing and using HealthCheck(?) recommended somewhere in this forum. I also added JetPack(Secure?) , at any rate some free JP feature.

I used some feature of ?HealthCheck that allows you to troubleshoot while keeping the site up, as recommended deleting all themes except my primary/secondary (Element/ElementChild) and I believe 2023 and possibly also 2022 as default.

There were multiple issues with WordPressComplete, which I deactivated, believing it was duplicative since I had just created a backup using paid Updraft Vault.

For some reason, it seemed I should temporarily deactivate JetPack, but when I did so, the entire site disappeared and I am no longer able to acccess my dashboard (it says I have no site). I did NOT delete the site, but was able to see as it was being removed and captured a screen shot.

When I now attempt to access the site, I get only a Not Secure: /default redirect, and nothing further happens.

I can’t contact IONOS directly today, but one of their services (?webchecker?) suggests that I now have only a shell of a site, if anything.

I am a complete novice to programming, have limited ability to recall everything that I tried yesterday on my dashboard to correct the numerous issues, but am greatly appreciative of any advice. JetPack will not help me since the site is not administered by them.

It was suggested to me in this forum that I could still access my dashboard using PHPAdmin, which I downloaded; but I am so naive as to not even know how to install, let alone use it.

ANY viable suggestions or help graciously and sincerely appreciated. I am pretty desperate at this point, having maintained this site singlehandedly for more than a decade. I happen to know it has saved lives.

I’m marking this resolved, although not at all confident the issue won’t recur. I cannot seem to update my php to anything above 7.4, and it seems my theme as well as multiple plug-ins also can crash the site. And possibly also WP 6.2 incompatibilities are playing a part here. Giving up with tinkering, just digs me in further. Thanks anyway!

    Hi @landrew,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you encountered with your site and I’d be happy to help you in any way I can.

Firstly, we want to assure you that Jetpack would not delete your site upon deactivation. I suppose you wanted to say that after deactivating Jetpack, you noticed it was removed from your WordPress.com Dashboard, which is expected.

It sounds like you may be experiencing multiple issues with your site, including plugin errors and incompatibilities with PHP 8.0 and WordPress 6.2. We recommend reaching out to a WordPress developer or the support team at IONOS to help you resolve these issues.

As I can see, at this moment the site is up and running, so I suppose you have managed to sort it out eventually?

    Warm regards,

Thanks, Alin, I was able to recover the site. But it appears that JetPack is incompatible, as well as other plug-ins, themes, widgets, and also WP 6.2 itself may pose problems. I need a total makeover! And a new host, IONOS is charging an arm and a leg and THEN nickle and diming to death. But thanks for the suggestion! Looking for a new developer and host.

    Hi @landrew

Rebuilding your website seems like a good idea if you are running an outdated theme or seeing a lot of issues when upgrading to the latest WordPress release.

If you haven’t chosen a host yet, you can find a recommended list here. You can also use Codeable to hire a developer:

    https://www.codeable.io/

Let us know if you need help with setting up Jetpack there ??
