• My blogs hosted at LivingDot are down. LivingDot mentioned it’s because of the DDOS attacks on some of the sites that are co-hosted on the same machine as my blogs. They suggested that I should host my blogs on dedicated server if I want my sites to be up all the time… is this the only alternative I have? LivingDot are pretty good in responding within minutes to any customer tickets, hence I stuck with them inspite of their prices being much higher than others. Plus their engineers personally take care of a lot of things (like moving, setting up and other stuff which other hosting services don’t touch with a barge pole). In this scenario do I have any other options? Or should I just sit and wait till the DDOS attacks have ended and hope to see my sites up again. The frustrations of sites being unaccessible and LivingDot’s email kind of has left me confused over the selection of my host…

  • That’s a load of bull from a host that can’t secure their servers.
Look around for a cheaper better one. There are plenty out there that respond quickly and take security seriously.

Any recommendations… One of my fellow bloggers on BlueHost (listed on WP’s host pages) has been having similar problems for the last three days where his site simply goes down.

Try https://networkredux.com – I just moved my entire reseller business to them. They are so good it’s awesome…. and not particularly in the “expensive” category.

AND they notify EVERYONE whenever there’s a problem on any of the machines in the server array, with details – plus follow-up emails as the situation changes or is resolved.

Best host I’ve EVER been with, and I’ve had a few in the last 10 years….

And in fact, I just received this email (3:47pm MST):

    Kernel Update RedHat/CentOS 3/4 Systems

    Announcement

    ——————
Over the course of the evening we will be restarting shared/reseller servers to load up new kernels which provide some needed security and bug fix related items.

Downtime per server will be 2-4 minutes.
    ——————

    and this one (4:13pm MST):

    Announcement

    ——————
All shared/reseller systems are now updated, North Carolina and Lexington were not restarted as they already contained current kernels from previous reboots.

Well that’s a new provider… anyone having stuck with their hosting providers for some time and really liked them? How about LunarPages? An Hosting?

    I’ve used
ipowerweb.com and asmallorange.com forever for differing reasons – love them both.

Being from ‘up north’ I have had great luck with Tera-Byte and they are one of the best I’ve come across. https://www.tera-byte.com

Their security is amazing and so is the support.

    Not the cheapest though….

It seems LivingDot is having a hell lot of problems. Third time this morning that my blog sites went down… I talked to some of the companies above, but didn’t get the confidence about the customer service. For one, most of them refused to help migrate my blogs and forums and cautioned that they won’t be able to help me resolve issues like changing my .htaccess file (in case some plugins need changes there) etc… stuck for now.

Network Redux will migrate your entire site for you. They did my whole reseller setup in less than 2 hours – and they’re VERY responsive customer-service wise.

Try reading over some of the posts on their forum: https://forums.networkredux.com/

I moved to NR after trying mosso – which was not a really good option for me after all (though their service was outstanding). I had been with my previous host for 4 years, and the one before that for 4 years. NR is better about everything than either one of them.

Bigger, btw, is not always better in the hosting world.
