DB Backup folder visible to the public

    I just upgraded to 2.8. Before I did so I was prompted to do a backup and so installed the DB Backup plugin and backed up. Now there is a big bold messsage in wp-admin saying:

    Your backup folder MIGHT be visible to the public

    To correct this issue, move the .htaccess file from wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager to /home/websitename/public_html/wp-content/backup-db

    The problem is I’m not sure where to find the file or how to move it. Do I do this inside wp-admin somewhere or do I use my ftp program to view the files on the server and then somehow move it?

    As you can see I’m a raw newbie

  • whoops. I tried to rename the file within my ftp program, and it dissapeared…not good huh? What can I do??

    I forgot to rename the htacces.txt to .htaccess. After doing that the notification was gone. Thanks!

    @emusicmotion: Mine dissappeared on the ftp program as well, however, I went to a file manager dashboard that my host provides that allows me to see any/all hidden files and it was still there. Once I refreshed the page, the “warning” was gone. Thanks to the creator of this plugin. Works if you follow the directions carefully. I was also missing the part about renaming to .htaccess instead of htaccess.txt.

    just put a new .htaccess file in wp-content/backup-db

    Error dissappeared

    Hi there. In my case, I did not have to rename it. I went to my webhost panel then logged onto FTP. Clicked a folder with same name as my domain. Found a file called .htaccess. Was able to move it to wp/content/backup-db.Even if I used Filezilla, I still was able to access my files through my webhost panel. Warning disappeared. FTP server name is https://ftp.yourdomain…Hope this helps…
