Thank you very much for this plugin. I’m yet another who’s investigated many search plugins without finding one that filters results in the way I wanted – this one does!

I do have one minor quibble though – since it doesn’t filter by post date (are there plans to add this btw?) it’s convenient to have search results ordered by date. Usually this is the case but I’ve noticed that some searches (eg keyword and category) can give results that are not always in complete date order. It’s not my theme and it’s not other plugins – any ideas?

    Thanks again

Hi Zygotti, thanks for the message.

There are no modification to any of the wordpress queries that affect the post order, so I’m a little confused as to why or how this is changing the order for you – I’ve also not heard this from anyone else (doesn’t mean its not true though!) so would suggest again to look at themes & plugins – try enabling the default 2013/2012 theme and let me know?

RE filtering by date order, a kind soul called Bradaric on Github has actually implemented this however I’ve been too busy to test his pull request – you can find it here and test it for yourself – https://github.com/rmorse/search-filter/pull/1

Let me know how it goes!

Am closing this now, please review the plugin if you get a minute ?? and let me know if you have any problems – I’m currently working on merging the above changes so keep your eyes out for an official release.

    Thanks

Beats me – I can only guess there’s something odd about the data as the 2013 theme with no plugins gives the same result. The default search gives results in the correct date order.

Whatever, it occurs infrequently enough – I’m gonna install and see if anybody notices. I’ll also keep an eye out for those updates you mention.

    Thanks again.

PS: I tried the Bradaric code and got the date inputs ok but I couldn’t get them to filter.

Hey Zygotti ?? I’ve updated the plugin to include bradarics code including plenty of updates and some fixes to that code too ?? Read the changelog before you update.

Just to note about the date filter – it uses an input type of date, with no JS or anything, so if your browser does not fully support the HTML5 date input, you will just see a plain text box.

I will be either writing a tutorial, or including the functionality to display the date input using the jquery date selector when the HTML5 date element is not supported ??

    Thanks

Ross, thanks for following up with the note about the empty date text box. That is a key feature for our site. It works well in Chrome but does indeed show up as an empty box in Firefox and IE9, which I’m forced into at work due to a web-based billing platform for our water utility.

I’m grateful for the good work you’ve done thus far and will be excited to see the jquery option in the future.
