Date Field – Empty Value

Posts are extended with a Pods date field. The option “Allow empty value?” is checked. On creating a new Post with a empty date field, a date is automatically inserted in post meta. The problem occurs with and without HTML5 field selected. This started happening on upgrade to WP 5.3.
