• My site was infected by a backdoor virus. There were strange phps all over the place, so I decided to scrap it totally. My plan is to do a clean re-install of WP and carefully pull my content data from a backup. Unfortunately I have no recent backup of the database. Can I use the “old” / former DB and link it to the new installation?
How can can I check if the WP database is clean, and if not – how can I clean it?
    Thanks in advance

  • I suggest you deploy the site locally and check if the site gets infected again

Check all the database tables for contents that does not seem correct.

Best hire someone to perform a cleanup

Thanks! I followed your suggestion with local install. Fresh WP deploy and selective copy of wp-content. In the DB there was a strange user account that sneaked in. Beside that I couldn’t identify any content that shouldn’t be there – I hope I didn’t miss anything. Meanwhile the site is online again.
    Thanks again
