• I have an old WordPress database in MySQL that has all of my old posts, comments, users, etc in it. If I do a fresh install of WordPress, what WordPress files do I have to change to get it to look at that old database instead of the new one?

No, I can’t do an export/import because I can’t get into the admin area. No I can’t snch the database in MySQL, because then I get a “You don’t have sufficient privileges” error. It’s been a nightmare and no one answers my posts anyway. So I figured I’d try one more time with a direct easy question.

You can read all of my other posts that went unanswered if you want the background story. But if there’s a way to accomplish what I’m asking for in the first paragraph, that’d be awesome.

  • Edit your wp-config.php file to look at another database…but the only issue you may run into that is the difference in data structure (if any) that your new version is looking for and what your old database has.

dagnabbit. No that didn’t work. I found the lines and changed them, but it showed the “problem with the database” page where it says, “Is your server down? Is the username or password correct?” etc. I may try it from a fresh install and see what happens unless someone has a better idea.
