Database query to count tags

Gang, I’m having a brain freeze trying to come up with the MySQL query that would allow me to total the number of posts per tag for a particular month. Sort of like a tag cloud for a month’s worth of posts. But I don’t need it displayed visually, just numerically so i Can dump the data into a spreadsheet. I’m trying to generate a monthly zeitgeist based on tags. Any help put there? Thanks much.
