Database problems – Error establishing a database connection wp-config.php

  • Hello All!
    I am very new to wordpress and have encountered a problem that does not let me log into any part of my website.
    I use wordpress online and have never downloaded it to my computer.
    I spoke to my hosting about the problem I was receiving and they said that I have to change my password in my database through phpMyAdmin. This is straight forward enough however i am encountering problems when it comes to accessing my wp-config.php file.
    As I have never downloaded wordpress I do not know how to access the wp-config.php file, anyone know how I would go about this?

    To edit your wp-config.php file, access your server via FTP or SFTP and edit the file with a plain text editor.

    How would I gain access to a FTP or SFTP? Thanks Hannah

    You’ll need to check your hosting provider’s documentation or contact them, there’s no one exact standard method between all hosts.

    I keep getting error message using firezilla.
    anyone know what the problem could be, this is the error message.

    Error: Could not connect to server
    Status: Waiting to retry…
    Status: Resolving address of https://ftp.subtle.fm
    Status: Connecting to 46.32.240.39:21…
    Status: Connection attempt failed with “ECONNREFUSED – Connection refused by server”.
    Error: Could not connect to server

    You’ll need to contact your hosting provider for help with that. You’re either attempting to connect to the wrong server, or you’re providing the wrong username/password, or your server is completely offline.
