My site was displaying and operating fine a few days ago…but suddenly seems to be showing SQL errors?

The problem was brought to my attention by an editor who was trying to upload an image file and found that ‘Temporary Folder Cannot Be Found’.

Now I notice that MySQL code is being displayed in my sidebar where there were some navigation and related post widgets.

Any ideas? Here’s the link: https://www.mulucaves.org/wordpress

    thanks

  • If I was a betting man, I’d give you 5 to 1 odds that this is a problem with your web host’s MySQL database server setup.

Try reporting the complete error message, URL where you see it, date, exact time (of last time you saw it, so they can look it up in their logs) and time zone you are in, to your web host’s Support folks.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll certainly take it up with them.

It does seem odd that it was working on Tuesday and munged on Friday – have not touched the site between times.

I investigated with host and it seems persmissions on a temp folder had been changed somehow. The guy fixed the permissions and that fixed the problem, it wasn’t actually an sql error.

But thanks for the tip-off, be hard to tell for me whether it’s a server or WP error.

For future reference, if you didn’t change anything when things suddenly stop working, maybe someone else did. Two obvious possibilities:

    1. your web host support folks
    2. a visitor to your site, usually a hacker

Just a little tip from someone who started his professional computing career in 1971 (punch cards and very wide printout paper).
