Database problem

    For some reason, the database I was using for WP suddenly got deleted (I’m still working with my webhost on WHY this happened). I wasn’t able to back it up, and was unable to get WP to work (obviously). So, I recreated a database and changed wp-config.php to the new database. However, I’m now getting the install page when I try to go to my blog:

    “It doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running install.php.”

    Am I permanently screwed because my database wasn’t backed up, or is there a way to get past this?

  • “recreated” – from where ? A fresh install ?
    If there is something in the database, is the table_prefix there the same as the one on wp-config.php ?

    I just went to cPanel and made a new database (since there wasn’t one there anymore). There isn’t anything in the new database.

    Sorry if this isn’t clear…I’m a bit of a dunce when it comes to the whole database thing.

    Even if it isn’t possible to save my blog style and plugins and such, is there a way to reinstall WP and import all my old posts?

    The database essentially holds 3 things: all your posts, comments and links. It does a lot more, but if you have no database backup, you cannot restore any posts.

    The files inside your blog directory have the style and plugins.

    From what you have said, if you have created a new database and connected the wp-config, then WP needs to install because there just isn’t anything there otherwise.

    Do you or your host have any database backups ?
    How old was your blog ?
    Could google’s cache help ?
    Who is your host ? And if they do not backup your data as part of their service, move host.
