Database not downloading to computer with Hostgator sites

    Hi, David

    I had no problem creating and downloading the database to my computer when my sites were hosted on Fatcow, but since I had other unresolvable problems hosting WordPress sites on Fatcow, I switched to HostGator.

    When I attempt to download, the wheel just keeps spinning and then eventually I get a message that says the connection was reset to the server while the page was loading. I tried several times last night, and again just a few minutes ago with the same results on two sites with the plugin installed. (The other two don’t have any plugin yet.) I also attempted to send it to email but that didn’t work either. I checked the Spam folder just to make sure, and it isn’t there.

    I’ll contact HostGator tomorrow and ask them what the problem is. But in the meantime, is there another way to get the database backup from my directory? That way I can have a backup in my computer and not just in the back end of my WP site.

    Hi Celeste,

    I recommend Dropbox – https://www.dropbox.com. Just set yourself an account up there, then choose the option in UpdraftPlus for Dropbox; it’s no more complex than entering your username and password. Then you can access your backups from anywhere in the world. It’s free for the first 5Gb, which is a lot of website.

    David, hi. Sorry for the delay in responding.

    I haven’t contacted Hostgator yet due to my work schedule, but still need to do so because there’s obviously an issue that should be resolved. I’ll check into Dropbox, also.

    Hi, David

    My apologies for the delay. The plugin will not work with Hostgator’s system, they explained it has something to do with the way everything is set up. Hostgator advised me that I can do a simultaneous full backup of all my WP sites at one time via their C-panel, and that if anything should happen they’ll restore at no charge. So, my problem is solved.

    Hi Celeste,

    I’m a little curious to know what their setup is, as UpdraftPlus doesn’t do anything inside that isn’t fairly common to WordPress plugins. But it’s not important – I’m glad you got the problem solved!
