• There has likely been covered but I can’t find it. I’m sorry.

-I have multi site enabled and installed and all is good there. (site.com)

-I added a second site included my server IP in the domain mapping menu
    (newsite.site.com)

-I added the new domain in the domain menu with the proper ID

I have a simple “hello world” html page on (newsite.site.com) which loads on both newsite.com & newsite.site.com.

FWIW, my domains were purchased at godaddy and my hosting is at Hostgator. Newsite, is of course, an add-on…

My problem? I can’t log into the backend. It’s giving me a database error. I don’t need to set up another database on the new site do I?

    Why?

no really – it;s not… needed? So i dunno why you have this in there.

Did you add the second site via the Super Admin -> Add site menu?

you have to ensure the sites *work* before you do anything like domain mapping.

Newsite, is of course, an add-on…

And did you tell it to use the folder where multisite is enabled and *not* the default folder it gives you?

-The hellow world html file was just therefrom a previous project. I wasn’t created for any reason related to this multisite install.

-Yes, I did add the site via SA>add site

And did you tell it to use the folder where multisite is enabled and *not* the default folder it gives you?

I suppose this is where I am confused:

    under site info:
    domain = newsite.com
Path:/ (this is where the install and https://www.site.com lives)

    Under site options:
    Site URL:https://newsite.com/
    Home: https://newsite.com/

I got it. Seems as though Hostgator created a sub-domain for newsite when I moved it over from Godaddy. It happened to be the same one WP was trying to write.

That’s what was confusing me. I couldn’t figure out why in the would the site would work, but the database give me an error…

no, when you added the domain at hostgator.

Me? This is my first time with Hostgator but i’m sure i didn’t manually create a subdomain. I simply changed the DNS at godaddy. Wasn’t until I checked did I checked via HG’s cpanel did I notice the conflict.

and my hosting is at Hostgator. Newsite, is of course, an add-on…

Right there you said you made newsite (the domain you want to map) an add-on domain at hostgator.

Is this correct? Becasue that’s what I said you needed to change.
